How laser hair removal works

The laser works by directing concentrated light into the hair follicle inhibiting the hair’s ability to grow without disrupting or damaging the skin’s surface. Our lasers use a wide beam which allows the removal of multiple hair follicles at the same time. Our experienced Therapists will take your skin and hair type into account before creating a personalised treatment plan.

The Candela GentleLASE Pro is designed to work for clients with dark hair and lighter skin. Designed with sensitive skin in mind, our laser hair removal technology is safe enough to be used on any part of the body and target different skin types whilst ensuring maximum results. All of our lasers feature a unique dynamic cooling device that helps to calm, soothe and protect the skin.

For your initial course of laser hair removal treatment, we recommend approximately 8-10 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Everyone is slightly different so a consultation & patch test with one of our experienced laser therapists must be carried out prior to beginning your Laser Hair Removal Journey. There is a €50 fee for this consultation, which is then redeemable against any course package purchased with us.

Consultation and Patch Test

This is probably the most important part of your treatment, on consultation we check through your medical history, assess your skin and hair to ensure you are suitable and answer any questions you may have regarding treatment.

We want to make sure you have all the relevant information to allow you to make an informed decision that laser is right for you. After your consultation you should be equipped with all the knowledge you need to understand how laser works and the science behind it.

Your patch test is also vitally important as it allows us to test your skin for any sensitivity from the laser and also will ensure you are a suitable candidate for treatment. If you are putting your trust in us and investing in Laser we feel it’s only right that we invest the time to explain things fully and make sure all your questions are answered.

Preperation

  • Shave the treatment area the night before your appointment.
  • Do not wax in the 4 weeks leading up to your appointment as pigment is required in the hair follicle for the laser to identify the hair and treatment to be effective.
  • Avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight for 2 weeks prior to your treatment and always protect the skin with sunscreen.

Prep for consultation and Patch Test

  • Shave a small section of each area you are thinking of having laser done on.
  • Have no active or false tan on the body.
  • Have some hair growth so therapist can access the colour and thickness.

Prep for first session

  • Shave the areas to be treated the night before your appointment.
  • Have no active or false tan on the areas been treated.
  • Have no lotions or potions on the skin.
  • Wear loose fitting clothes to your appointment.

Aftercare

There may be some mild heat and redness in areas that have been treated. Soothe any redness and sensitivity with Aloe Vera gel, this will continue to draw heat out of the skin and keep the area cool and hydrated. Aloe Vera gel can be applied liberally for 3-5 days or until the skin has returned to its pre-treatment state.

Avoid exposing the area to direct sunlight for 2 weeks after your treatment and always use SPF to protect the skin and maintain results.

FAQ

Depending on your hair and skin type and the area being treated, you will usually require treatments at 4-6 week intervals.

One of the benefits of laser hair removal is that the treatment is virtually painless, especially compared to waxing. Each pulse lasts less than second, producing a slight tingling feeling. In particularly sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, it may feel like a rubber band snap on the skin

We use the medical grade Candela GentleLase Pro in both our clinics, which are the most advanced technology to achieve the most advanced results. Candela machines are the world’s most efficient hair reduction system for palerskin and dark hair.

No, we don’t put a time frame on any course of laser hair removal.

There are no conclusive studies on laser being safe or unsafe for pregnant or breastfeeding women. At Touch & Glow we advise waiting until baby has arrived safe and well before continuing with laser treatments.

We offer a price promise. T&C apply.

Lasers are most selective and more effective at absorbing into melanin, meaning fewer treatments are required.

There has been more published clinical evidence to support effectiveness of laser treatments.

Lasers penetrate deeper into tissues to specifically target hair structures. Alex 755nm, NdYAG1064nm and Diode 810nm penetrate approx 4-5mm specifically design to target hair structures, while most IPL’s only target 2mm which is not deep enough to target these structures effectively.

Our lasers have more advanced cooling systems meaning more comfortable treatments.

The reduction you receive is permanent, but it is impossible to achieve 100% removal of every single follicle in a given area. Over the course of treatment your hair and the amount of it that you have will change dramatically – and we mean dramatically. What starts off as rough, coarse and thick hair will eventually become soft, thin and light hair. You will have areas where the hair has completely disappeared and some areas with sporadic light hairs remain. These hairs will be picked up on your subsequent top up treatments.

Top up treatments are recommended to keep these finer hairs away and are typically needed once or twice a year.

No, using sunbeds is extremely dangerous while having laser hair removal and must be avoided at all times.

Yes, you can apply Fake Tan approximately 4-5 days after your session and use it in between each session. It is extremely important that you don’t use any tan for a week before your treatment and ensure that you are exfoliating your skin daily to remove any residue. If there is any residue on the skin we cannot perform your treatment until all tan is removed.

No, shaving is the only method of hair removal recommended while having laser. Waxing in between your sessions will affect hair growth patterns and affect results.

Absolutely, you can shave as much as you like while having laser treatment. Shaving and trimming is the only method of hair removal you should use during your course.

Please do not take Ibuprofen for 48 hours before your laser hair removal session.

Laser hair removal has no effect on light hairs that are blond, red, grey or white in colour as they don’t contain enough pigment for the laser to absorb into.

Yes, when we have completed a set of sessions (usually 6-8) and are happy with the treatment outcome you may need to have top up or maintenance sessions a couple of times a year. This depends on the person and the hair growth they had initially. Hairs that remain should be sporadic, fine and light and should be very slow to grow.

No, we would ask that you use a tampon if having your bikini area treated. You may be more sensitive but it is not necessary to cancel, it happens all the time and is not a problem and we can go ahead with treatment.

You should not perform any form of strenuous exercise after laser hair removal treatment for at least 24 hours. As laser works on the principle of using heat to destroy the hair follicles deep beneath the skin’s surface, an increase in the body’s natural temperature by exercising combined with sweat will cause an increase in irritation on the treatment area. This also applies to swimming where the chlorine in the water can cause irritation on the skin during the 24 hours after treatment.
